How many hours do the AGPCNP and Pediatric Primary Care tracks require?
Each track requires 600 clinical hours, structured as four sequential preceptor-supervised practicum courses of 150 hours each.
Both specializations sit inside an online MSN of 69 credits, with online coursework, an in-person community practicum, and one weekend on-campus residency. The Adult-Gerontology Primary Care track focuses on adult and older-adult primary care, while the Pediatric Primary Care track focuses on infants, children, and adolescents. That population difference shapes which sites and preceptors fit each program.
Both are CCNE-accredited at the master's level. NP specializations do not meet APRN licensure educational requirements in Alabama, Idaho, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, so confirm your state before enrolling.
Doesn't Rasmussen place me for these tracks?
Rasmussen has a clinical practicum coordinator who, per its own pages, helps find and secure your site and preceptor, and we work alongside that coordinator rather than against it.
The honest picture is that both tracks are designed around practicums completed in your own community, possibly at your own organization, with the default expectation that you supply the preceptor and site from your own network. For the pediatric track especially, finding a Master's or Doctoral prepared pediatric primary care preceptor can be harder than for general adult care. We do the sourcing and vetting so the coordinator has a ready, verified match, and so you are not cold-calling clinics between shifts.
Who qualifies as a preceptor for these NP tracks?
A preceptor for either track must be a Master's or Doctoral degree-prepared nurse, and a cleared background check is required.
Beyond the credential, population match matters. Adult-Gerontology practicums need a preceptor whose panel covers adult and older-adult primary care; Pediatric Primary Care practicums need a preceptor seeing infants, children, and adolescents.
