At the same time, the program is built around practicums completed in your own community, possibly at your own organization. That design means the default expectation is that you supply the site and preceptor from your own network, with the coordinator supporting the process. For many students, that is the reality: you still bring the site and preceptor.
Why do I usually still have to bring my own site and preceptor?
Because the practicum is community-based by design. Rasmussen structures the NP practicum to happen where you already live and often where you already work, so the model naturally leans on your local connections and your employer.
The preceptor also has to be a Master's or Doctoral degree-prepared nurse, and a cleared background check is required. Those requirements narrow the pool, which is why students in areas with few qualified preceptors, or without an employer that can host, often find the community-first model harder than it sounds.
What is the honest gap the coordinator does not close?
The gap is capacity in your specific community. A coordinator can support and process your placement, but if your local network has no willing site or no qualified preceptor, that support cannot manufacture one. The community-first model puts the sourcing burden on you.

How does an independent service fit alongside the coordinator?

You are never locked in. If your own network or the coordinator secures a rotation, great, that is the ideal outcome and it costs you nothing with us. We are there for the rotations where the community-first model leaves you stuck.
