What Rasmussen Preceptor Placement Costs

Our placement service costs 1,500 to 2,500 per rotation, and you pay only when you are matched with a vetted preceptor and clinical site. There is no charge simply for starting the search, and the price reflects the work of locating, credential-verifying, and vetting a Master's or Doctoral prepared nurse in your own community.

The range accounts for how difficult a given placement is. A common primary care setting in a well-served area sits toward the lower end, while a harder-to-source specialty or setting, or a location with few graduate-prepared nurses available, moves toward the upper end. Because we are independent and not affiliated with Rasmussen, this is a service fee for sourcing and vetting, separate from your tuition.

Because Rasmussen's model puts the site and preceptor in your own community, and the coordinator helps but does not guarantee a match. Rasmussen provides a clinical practicum coordinator who helps find and secure the site and preceptor, and for students whose own organization or network already includes a qualified graduate-prepared nurse, that support may be all that is needed at no extra cost.

The paid need arises when your own network does not produce a Master's or Doctoral prepared nurse who is willing, available, and able to clear a background check. Sourcing one from outside your immediate circle takes outreach, credential verification, and vetting. Our fee covers that work, done faster and alongside your coordinator rather than in competition with them.

The fee covers sourcing and vetting a qualified preceptor and clinical site in your own community, matched to your specific NP or MSN track. Concretely, that includes the items below.

• Sourcing a Master's or Doctoral degree-prepared nurse in a setting that fits your track.
• Credential verification to confirm the preceptor meets Rasmussen's graduate-degree requirement.
• Background-check readiness, confirming the preceptor is able to clear the required check.
• Setting and track fit, matching a primary care site to FNP, AGPCNP, or Pediatric tracks, and a behavioral or mental health setting to PMHNP.
• Coordination handoff, delivering a placement your Rasmussen coordinator can formalize.

The fee does not include or replace Rasmussen tuition, coursework, or the required weekend on-campus residency for NP students.

It depends on your track, since Rasmussen splits clinical hours across four sequential preceptor-supervised practicum courses. If a single preceptor and site carry you through multiple courses, you can consolidate rotations and reduce total placement cost.

The MSN non-NP Professional Specializations embed smaller preceptor-supervised practicum hours, and the DNP requires a minimum of 1,000 post-baccalaureate practice hours, so placement needs and costs for those pathways differ from the NP tracks. Where continuity is possible, keeping the same preceptor across courses is the most cost-effective plan.

You pay when you are matched, not before. There is no upfront charge to begin the search, which means the cost only lands once we have sourced and vetted a preceptor and site you can move forward with. This pay-when-matched structure keeps the risk on us to actually deliver a placement.

If your own network already produces a qualified preceptor with help from your Rasmussen coordinator, you may not need our service at all, and that is a legitimate outcome we will tell you about honestly. Our role is to step in where your own community comes up short, at 1,500 to 2,500 per rotation, payable only on a successful match.
